It´s a unicorn and it´s a piñata!
How would you like a birthday party that explodes with joy? Then you must have a piñata! And now that children have all become unicorn fans, in this activity, we will show you, step-by-step, how to make a unicorn-shaped piñata for the kids´ birthday party or any other celebration.
Materials:
- Unicorn template (Changing the template, you can make any shape you want: a cloud, a moon, etc.)
- A roll of white tissue paper
- A large cardboard box
-Apli coloured tissue paper
-Apli coloured ribbons
- Apli Masking tape
- Apli scissors
- Apli silicon glue
- APLI cutter
- A punch
- A compass
- Apli string
Step 1
Download the unicorn template, print it on four A3 sheets of paper, to make it bigger and stick it onto the cardboard. Cut it out and do the same with the other piece. You should have two cardboard unicorns, one for each side.
Step 2
Cut carboard strips about 11 cm long and start to give volume to the piece. We recommend that you use masking tape, which is very practical and can be unstuck if you make a mistake.
You can also make grooves 1 cm long to join the sides better.
Step 3
Make two holes in the unicorn´s ear with the punch and thread the string through it to hang the unicorn. Then place the other unicorn shape on the structure, leaving the base open.
Step 4
Now it´s time to make one of the most important parts of the piñata: The lower part, as this is where the strings come out, which the children will use to try to break the piñata to get the gifts and sweets the unicorn holds inside.
In this case, we have made three doors, one on each foot and one in the centre. So, there will be three strings to try and break the piñata.
First cut a piece of cardboard to the shape of each foot, make a circle with the compass and cut it out with a cutter, but not completely, leave a part of the circle attached to the cardboard. In this manner, you will have a little round door. Then stick a piece of coloured tissue paper with the silicone glue and then, with the punch, make a small hole to pass the strings through. Make a triple knot and stick a couple of pieces of Apli adhesive tape on the edges of the hole made in the tissue paper, to avoid it tearing.
Make three little doors and only stick two on with the masking tape. One will be left open, only stuck on one side, so you can put whatever you want into the piñata. We also advise you to roll up the strings to make it easier to continue.
Step 5
Now you can begin to decorate your piñata with tissue paper. It is very easy, you just have to make double strips and cut the fringes. It is important to start from the bottom and move upwards. You can use other colours in the head area, so it will look like the unicorn’s mane.
Step 6
Now it’s time to make the golden horn. Using the compass, draw a quarter of a circle on golden Apli paper that you have stuck to a piece of cardboard. Cut it out and roll it up to make a cone. Stick it onto the head with the silicon glue. Ah! You can also make an eye with black tissue paper and stick it onto the unicorn.
Now it´s made, hang it up wherever you want, either for decoration or to fill with sweets and gifts, the kids or your guests will love this unicorn-piñata.
